Before requesting maintenance or calling an electrician, there are a few simple steps you can try to safely restore power yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-47b8ba8\" id=\"before-we-get-started-you-should-know-some-basic-information\" data-block-id=\"47b8ba8\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Before we get started, you should know some basic information&#8230;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two main types of outlets in your home: standard outlets, found in most rooms, and GFCI outlets, commonly located in kitchens and bathrooms. You can easily spot a GFCI outlet\u2014it has two small buttons on the front, usually labeled \u201cTest\u201d and \u201cReset.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-the-outlet-you-re-troubleshooting-a-gfci-here-s-what-to-do\">Is the outlet you\u2019re troubleshooting a GFCI? Here\u2019s what to do:\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unplug any devices from the outlet.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press the small \u2018Reset\u2019 button until you hear a click.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plug in a small device, like a phone charger, to check if the power is restored.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, if you&#8217;re dealing with a standard outlet, it could still be connected to a GFCI outlet elsewhere on the same circuit. That GFCI may have tripped and cut power to the outlet you&#8217;re trying to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-4e34d8b\" id=\"heres-how-to-check\" data-block-id=\"4e34d8b\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Here\u2019s how to check:&nbsp;<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find the GFCI outlet near the outlet that has lost power.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unplug any devices from the outlet.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press the small \u2018Reset\u2019 button until you hear a click.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plug in a small device, like a phone charger, to check if the power is restored.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-1cab5f2\" id=\"if-those-things-didnt-work-youll-want-to-check-the-electrical-panel-to-see-if-a-breaker-has-been-tripped-nbsp\" data-block-id=\"1cab5f2\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">If those things didn\u2019t work, you\u2019ll want to check the electrical panel to see if a breaker has been tripped.&nbsp;<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Again, unplug anything connected to the outlet.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Next, locate the home\u2019s electrical breaker box\u2014usually found in the basement, garage, utility room, or even on the side of the home.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Look for any tripped breakers. A tripped breaker will be slightly out of alignment with the others.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To reset it, simply flip the switch all the way off, then back on. You should hear a click.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<br>Once the breaker is reset, test the outlet again.
