There are many factors that can impact credit scores, both positively and negatively. Minor and temporary negative impacts to a credit score can occur when positive rent reporting first begins. This is the result of a new trade line being opened on a credit profile and is standard. If a minor dip occurs, it should fully recover within 1-3 months. As of the end of 2025, residents who participated in the program saw an average increase to their credit score of 49 points by the end of their lease!

No. Positive Rent Reporting is offered at no cost to all residents.

Yes! All adults 18 and over who are listed on the lease will have on-time payments reported.

If you make a late or incomplete payment, or miss a payment completely, Stake will not report that monthly payment to the credit bureaus, meaning this will not affect your credit score. However, if you make a late or incomplete payment, Stake will pause all reporting for 6 months, at which time they will begin reporting again. You cannot opt-in during this 6-month period.

We highly recommend participating in positive rent reporting as it is free and cannot negatively impact your credit.

You can opt out any time by singing into your Resident Portal or the Progress Mobile App.

If you fill out the opt in form on or before the 14th of the month, Stake will begin reporting your on-time payments starting that same month. If you fill out the opt in form later than the 14th of the month, Stake will begin reporting your on-time payments starting the following month.

Stake has begun verifying and reporting on-time rent payments as of 4/1/26. There can be a delay of up to 60 days from when Stake begins reporting that you see your first on-time payment on your credit profile.

Credit scores are influenced by many factors beyond positive rent reporting, including credit utilization, length of credit history, types of credit accounts, recent credit inquiries, and payment history beyond positive rent reporting. Progress recommends staying informed and maintaining strong financial habits across these factors to help maximize the benefits of positive rent reporting.
