CHARLOTTE, NC (July 17, 2025) – Community leaders, housing advocates, and civic stakeholders gathered today for the Charlotte Housing Opportunity Roundtable, a collaborative event hosted by Progress Residential to explore new strategies for advancing housing access and economic mobility for working families in the region.
Held in a roundtable format designed to foster open dialogue and shared solutions, the event brought together 30 local housing stakeholders including lawmakers, nonprofits and decision makers from city and county agencies who are committed to supporting housing stability and generational opportunity.
The morning began with a networking breakfast, followed by opening remarks that framed the current landscape of housing in Charlotte where rising costs, limited inventory, and access barriers continue to challenge working families. Leaders in attendance acknowledged the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing these complex dynamics.
The first discussion focused on Housing Access and Stability for Working Families, exploring how stakeholders can work together to expand access to single-family rental homes in high-opportunity neighborhoods. Attendees discussed the role of public-private partnerships, eviction prevention resources, and flexible housing models that help families weather financial hardship while remaining in their communities.
The second session, Supporting Families Along Their Journey to Homeownership, examined ways to bridge the gap between renting and owning. Participants highlighted the importance of credit-building initiatives, pre-purchase education, down payment assistance, and programs that reintroduce quality homes into the ownership market—all essential tools for helping renters transition into sustainable homeownership.
“At Progress Residential, we believe that stable and affordable housing is essential for thriving communities,” said Ama Romaine, EVP and General Counsel at Progress Residential. “That is why we are deeply invested in building partnerships that bring real solutions to the table. From expanding access to quality rental homes in opportunity-rich neighborhoods to helping our residents build credit and financial stability, we are committed to being a trusted partner for the families and communities we serve.”
The event concluded with a summary of key takeaways and a collective commitment to continued dialogue and action. Leaders emphasized the need to prioritize housing solutions that are inclusive, scalable, and centered on the long-term success of Charlotte’s residents.
At Progress Residential, we are proud to facilitate conversations that drive meaningful progress. We remain committed to working alongside our partners to expand housing choice, unlock financial opportunity, and help build thriving communities where everyone can succeed.
